Maunder Watch Co have for sale a rare Lemania HS9 wristwatch. This example is one of the very first of its kind, a series 1, issued to the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm in the 1950’s.
The HS9 designation displayed on the caseback stands for Hydrographic Survey and is the earliest marking. It is the predecessor to the nato style engravings which many of these watches were later converted to and finding an example still clearly displaying HS9 without being crossed out or replaced is incredibly hard.
Lemania supplied many different armed forces around the world – their movements are very solidly constructed and keep excellent time, making them well suited to an extremely rugged life in the services. Today Lemania are something of a cult brand – no longer in existence but much cherished by watch aficionados. The company specialized in the production of chronographs which were inherently complicated things to manufacture and for this reason many watch companies brought-in movements from specialists like Lemania. They supplied Omega with the movement for the Speedmaster moon landing watch along with many other luxury brands such as Vacheron Constantin and Patek Philippe. Because Lemania often supplied movements and were often unaccredited when a watch is produced by them they are especially prized.
All of our watches have undergone a thorough inspection of water resistance, accuracy, functionality and are authenticated by our specialist watch makers.
