Description

This is a nice old antique solid silver Swiss made Kendal and Dent, London pocket watch. I think that it is probably late Victorian, early Edwardian (circa early 20th century 1900 - 1920) and it is in need of restoration. There seems to be a revival of interest in pocket watches of late and any antique / vintage pocket watches, chains and especially silver and gold fobs are beginning to appeal to collectors more and more. This is pushing prices up and even items such as this example in need of restoration are being sold for relatively high prices. This example is made from 935 / 1000 purity silver which is slightly higher grade than sterling silver which is 925 / 1000 purity, it is Swiss made (meaning it is a top quality timepiece) and was cased and retailed by a very high status London maker and seller. The inner casing marks are a '2' followed by '526085' and the silver purity is below in a cartouche type engraving '0.935' and there is a very faint hallmark below this which is difficult to determine exactly what year, etc, but it appears to have a lion in it? Overall the watch weighs 90.25 grammes. Because of the current resurgence in interest in these pieces, I have decided to auction this item and let the market decide its true value.
